In this booklet, a translation of a Hindi lecture spoken in 1964, Śrī Śrīmad Bhaktivedānta Nārāyaṇa Gosvāmī Mahārāja systematically guides us in understanding the actual nature of our soul. He begins with a captivating story from Vedic history in which two kings, the lord of the demigods and the lord of the demons, vie with each other for factual knowledge of the soul’s identity. The contents herein provide a complete foundation for understanding all other devotional literature.
The Way of Love is compiled from the lectures of Srila Gurudeva, Bhaktivedanta Narayana Gosvami Maharaja, a modern-day saint in the Gaudiya Vaisnava tradition. He translated the writings of prominent Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇavas into Hindi, publishing nearly fifty Hindi sacred texts. Later, most of these invaluable masterpieces were translated into English and other major languages of the world.
For many years, Srila Gurudeva traveled throughout India to spread the message of Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇavism, and it was for this end, also, that in 1996, he journeyed abroad. During the next fourteen years, he circled the globe more than thirty times. Whether he was in India or abroad, his preaching always bore the distinctive characteristic of boldly unmasking any misconception obscuring the specific purposes of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu’s advent, in strict adherence to the desire of Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura Prabhupāda and in perfect congruence with the conceptions of Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu’s foremost follower. Thus, in present times, in upholding the glorious tenets of the Gauḍīya sampradāya, he performed the function of a true ācārya, spiritual preceptor.

In Verse 18.65 of Bhagavad-gītā, Śrī Kṛṣṇa says: “Absorb your mind and heart in Me, become My devotee, worship Me, offer your obeisances to Me, and certainly you will come to Me.” This instruction captures the essence of Śrī Kṛṣṇa’s teachings to His disciple and friend Arjuna, and to all those who seek guidance on the path of self-realization. This booklet offers vivid examples of the practical application of this verse and includes many pastimes of Kṛṣṇa and our great saintly predecessors.

Long ago, an evil monarch named Hiranyakashipu seized control of the entire universe. Although he made life impossible for all, his son Prahlad, who was always absorbed in meditating on the Lord, remained undisturbed. Seeing the boy’s natural predilection for spiritual life and thus taking him as an archenemy, Hiranya-kashipu tried to kill him, but without success. If we follow the teachings of Prahlad Maharaja, we will also become fearless pure devotees of the Lord.
